What Will You Learn?

  • In Lesson 1 (5/6/2025), students will explore the concept of indices, beginning with an introduction to index notation and its significance in mathematical expressions. The lesson will cover basic laws of indices, such as multiplication, division, and powers of powers, including zero and negative indices. Students will engage in guided and independent practice to reinforce their understanding and will be introduced to simplifying expressions involving indices.
  • In Lesson 2 (12/6/2025), students will build upon their prior knowledge of indices through a discussion of homework and targeted SPM-level questions. The lesson will reinforce key index laws and focus on applying these laws to solve more challenging exponential expressions and equations. Students will practice simplifying and manipulating expressions with varying bases and powers, deepening their conceptual understanding and preparing for the introduction of logarithms in the next lesson.
  • In Lesson 3 (19/6/2025), students will transition from indices to the concept of logarithms, beginning with the definition of a logarithm as the inverse of an index. Through class discussion and examples, students will learn to convert between exponential and logarithmic forms and evaluate basic logarithmic expressions. The lesson will also include a review of homework and guided practice to help students understand the relationship between indices and logarithms.
  • In Lesson 4 (26/6/2025), students will explore the rules of logarithms, focusing on the three main laws: the product, quotient, and power rules. The lesson will include worked examples to demonstrate how these laws can be applied to simplify logarithmic expressions and solve logarithmic equations. Students will engage in structured practice to solidify their understanding and will be encouraged to make connections between the rules of indices and their logarithmic counterparts.
